Title: Everless
Author: Sara Holland
Publication: January 2nd 2018
Pages: 336
Synopsis:

In the kingdom of Sempera, time is currency—extracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to one’s own lifespan. The rich aristocracy, like the Gerlings, tax the poor to the hilt, extending their own lives by centuries.

No one resents the Gerlings more than Jules Ember. A decade ago, she and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerlings’ palatial estate, until a fateful accident forced them to flee in the dead of night. When Jules discovers that her father is dying, she knows that she must return to Everless to earn more time for him before she loses him forever.

But going back to Everless brings more danger—and temptation—than Jules could have ever imagined. Soon she’s caught in a tangle of violent secrets and finds her heart torn between two people she thought she’d never see again. Her decisions have the power to change her fate—and the fate of time itself.

MY RATING: 4.5/5

Everless by Sara Holland has got to be one of my first fantasy reads of the year. I know, fellow readers, it’s hard to imagine but one glance at my blog and you’ll see that I rarely step out of my comfort zone of YA contemporary and adult romance. I long given up the world of make-believe and ventured into more realistic plots featuring women who fall in love with their billionaire bosses.

Okay, so maybe not so realistic.

MY RATING: 3.5/5

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Zero Repeat Forever is not something I normally would pick up. In fact, if Simon Schuster Canada didn’t generously provide me a copy, I would have never even batted an eyelash at it. But this is the wonders of publishers and them giving you books so you can at least try it out and see if it’ll change your first impression and it absolutely did.

In a way.

BOOK REVIEW: Most of All You by Mia Sheridan

Book Review!

32854499

Title: Most of All You
Author: Mia Sheridan
Publication: October 17th 2017
Pages: 352
Synopsis:

A broken woman . . .

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior, and carries within her a deep mistrust of men who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.

A man in need of help . . .

Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there’s an undeniable goodness about him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.

Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .

Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world that had stolen everything from them would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I was told from a good friend from the publisher that this book would be an emotional one and she was completely right. We have two people, Crystal and Gabriel, who grew up from dark pasts. Crystal’s mother passed away, leaving her in the care of a dead beat father who eventually stopped trying to raise her as a child. And Gabriel was kidnapped, molested, and escaped only to find out that his parents had passed away due to a car crash during the two years he was held in captivity.

BOOK REVIEW: Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick

Traveling in London (3)

29868610

Title: Scrappy Little Nobody
Author: Anna Kendrick
Publication: November 15th 2016
Pages: 275
Synopsis:

A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.

Even before she made a name for herself on the silver screen starring in films like Pitch PerfectUp in the AirTwilight, and Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick was unusually small, weird, and “10 percent defiant.”

At the ripe age of thirteen, she had already resolved to “keep the crazy inside my head where it belonged. Forever. But here’s the thing about crazy: It. Wants. Out.” In Scrappy Little Nobody, she invites readers inside her brain, sharing extraordinary and charmingly ordinary stories with candor and winningly wry observations.

With her razor-sharp wit, Anna recounts the absurdities she’s experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture as only she can—from her unusual path to the performing arts (Vanilla Ice and baggy neon pants may have played a role) to her double life as a middle-school student who also starred on Broadway to her initial “dating experiments” (including only liking boys who didn’t like her back) to reviewing a binder full of butt doubles to her struggle to live like an adult woman instead of a perpetual “man-child.”

Enter Anna’s world and follow her rise from “scrappy little nobody” to somebody who dazzles on the stage, the screen, and now the page—with an electric, singular voice, at once familiar and surprising, sharp and sweet, funny and serious (well, not that serious).

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a big fan of Anna Kendrick. Well, I’m not in one of her groupies but I definitely enjoy any movie she’s part in. She’s quirky and fun to watch on screen and when she appears on late night televison shows like Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel, I’ll stop flipping the channels to watch.

BOOK REVIEW: Burned Promises by Willow Winters

Book Review!

35623617

Title: Burned Promises
Author: Willow Winters
Publication: July 7th 2017
Pages: 174
Synopsis:

My world is caving in on itself; the scars of my past threatening to consume me.
I was ready to fall from the top of my empire and I didn’t give a damn.

But then she showed up; falling back into my life and into my bed.
My sweetheart.

I’m not the type of man to make promises. But long ago I made one to her, and then broke it, pushing her as far away as I could. She’s too good for this shit and I couldn’t risk her.

I should let her walk away again; I’m a bad man, but I’m too selfish.
This time, I’m keeping her.

MY RATING: 3/5 STARS

Honestly, I was in the mood for something gritty and dark and Burned Promises did a good job at giving me a taste of what I would expect from a longer novel. 174 pages isn’t a lot to work with but Willow Winters did an amazing job at creating angst, pain, and happiness all bundled into this ebook.

BOOK REVIEW: Off Limits by Claire Connelly

Book Review!

36556798

Title: Off Limits
Author: Clare Connelly
Publication: February 1st 2018
Pages: 197
Synopsis:

‘I want to taste you tonight.’

With chemistry this hot, it’s worth getting burned…

Billionaire Jack Grant is totally off-limits to Gemma Picton. He’s wild, deliciously dangerous…and her boss. When working late turns X-rated, it’s better than her wildest imaginings — and Gemma’s imagined a lot! But Jack has major emotional baggage, so when she starts wanting to heal his heart as well as enjoy his body she knows she’s in big trouble…

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first harlequin dare novel or mills and boon so I’m pretty excited. Once Goodreads or the publisher gets their act together, you’ll probably fall in love with the cover as much as I did. I was attracted to the cover as much as the synopsis because hello who doesn’t love an office romance involving a super rich boss and his assistant?

OFF LIMITS was definitely a darker toned novel. There were hardly any light heart moments you might expect. Jack is going through a long grieving process after his wife passed away from cancer and Gemma, his assistant, is there to watch him waste his life by having sex with as many females as possible to forget his grief.

Obviously, things get heated and suddenly Gemma and Jack are getting hot and heavy basically anywhere they go. The sex scenes were spectacular and you can really feel the chemistry and intensity of each scene. If you’re not a fan of fifty shades of grey, I’m sorry to quote this but this book had a lot of fifty vibes. Not a stalker or abusive boyfriend but just dark past, moody hero, Bondage, and submissive vibes.

In terms of why it wasn’t a perfect 5/5 for me is probably because it didn’t leave a big impact on me. I enjoyed the read and got through it but it’s not something I would pump my first in the air for.

MY RECOMMENDATION
Definitely worth the buy and read!  Continue reading

BOOK REVIEW: Dear Delilah by T. Bester

Book Review!

35701298

Title: Dear Delilah
Author: T. Bester
Publication: August 2017
Pages: 233
Synopsis:

It has been said that boys and girls can never be ‘just’ friends, and until Nathan Penn barged into my life, I thought it was complete and utter nonsense. But one night changed everything, and what I thought was the defining moment in our friendship turned out to be more than either of us were ready for.

When my boss tasks me with writing the University’s new sex advice column, Dear Delilah, I make it quite clear that I’m the least qualified person for the job – my experience is limited to one sexual encounter that taught me about love and loss all at once.

So what makes me say ‘yes’?

Simple.

A distraction.

Something to take my mind off Nathan.

But once I start, I find myself wanting to be the voice of the girl who’s too afraid to ask for advice, the girl who wants to own her sexuality but doesn’t know how. Sounds easy enough.
Except it isn’t.
It’s complicated, and messy and awkward, and when Nathan offers to help, I’m caught between a rock and his hard place. Literally.

It’s only when my identity is threatened that I realize I might be in over my head. With all of it.

MY RATING: 2/5 STARS

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to like dear deliah. It seemed like it was right up my alley because I love new adult and I love the premise of this book.

Well, readers I just want to warn you that this book does not start off the way you expect. Delilah is already in love and in a mess after spending the night with her best friend, Nathan. But of course, we don’t know that yet. We just know they’re not at the best terms in the beginning so already I’m intrigued. I want these best friends to be lovers and to stay as lovers.

BOOK REVIEW: Dirty Scoundrel by Jessica Clare

Book Review!

35150564

Title: Dirty Scoundrel
Author: Jessica Clare
Publication: November 21st 2017
Pages: 222
Synopsis:

In a sizzling novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Dirty Money, there’s rich, and then there’s filthy rich when an oil tycoon takes being a roughneck billionaire to a new level.

Clay Price has everything he’s ever wanted, except the one thing money can’t buy—Natalie Weston. Years ago, Clay and Natalie were in love…until she turned down his marriage proposal. Now Clay and his brothers are oil-rich billionaires, and they can have whatever they want. And what Clay wants is Natalie in his bed, no matter what it takes. If it means being ruthless, he’ll do it.

Natalie gave up on true love years ago when the realities of the world destroyed her fairy-tale hopes. Giving up Clay is her biggest regret in life, and she’s excited to see him return…until she finds out why. Clay’s got one hell of a proposal for her: he’ll save her father’s business and bail Natalie out of debt if she’ll agree to become his very personal assistant. It’s clear that he wants more from her than just typing.

It’s also clear that Natalie has no choice. This scoundrel’s bet could destroy any hope they had of reconciliation—or it could bring them together once and for all…

MY RATING: 2.5/5

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Jessica Clare book and giving that this is book number two in the series of Roughneck Billionaires, it’s not very fair for me to judge the book as part of the series. But seeing that each individual book can be read separately from its own, I’m going to judge solely based on Dirty Scoundrel by itself.

Dirty Scoundrel seemed to be following the troupe of enemies to lover romance and as well as second chance. I prefer my books to have a clear direction in where it is going and I guess because we really don’t know what the heck our hero, Clay wants from Nat, I had to knock it down a couple of stars. Because really does Clay want to hate Nat and get her back for the humiliation and heartbreak she supposedly put her through or does he want to win her heart because I’m seriously confused here.

This is my second book from Kadie Scott and after falling absolutely in love with ‘The Wrong Kind of Compatible’ which is the first book in the Love Undercover series, I was excited to hear about this new release!

And the hype definitely lived up to it. Ever since the first book, I fell in love with Max as a character. Who doesn’t love a best friend who is always there for you and there to tell you to get your act together and go for the girl?

BOOK REVIEW: Sweet Captivity by Julia Sykes

Traveling in London (3)

35918061

Title: Sweet Captivity
Author: Julia Sykes
Publication: September 12th 2017
Pages: 368
Synopsis:

I don’t like to be touched. I’m the hacker-geek-goddess of the FBI. When I’m hiding behind my screen, I’m a safe distance from everyone; isolated, powerful. No man has ever touched me, but when I’m captured by Colombian drug lord Andrés Moreno, I no longer have the right to refuse. He’s scarred and scary, and his cruel brother Cristian has tasked him with breaking me. I try to fight, but I can’t escape his strong arms and harsh discipline. He demands that I accept his touch, and my virgin body can’t help but respond to his masterful manipulations.

The longer I remain trapped with him, the more I come to suspect that I’m not the only captive in his brother’s home. Andrés’ scars go deeper than the wicked furrows carved into his flesh, his pain reflected in the dark demands he imposes upon me. His obsession is twisted and wrong, but maybe I’m twisted, too.

Do I want to be rescued from him? Or is he the one who truly needs saving?

MY RATING: 3/5 STARS

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Let’s be honest. After reading the synopsis, you kind of already know what to expect from Sweet Captivity by Julia Sykes. You’re going to probably get a story that features a heroine who may experience Stockholm syndrome and because this is a romance, you’ll probably expect an implausible ending that will make you feel unsettled.
