I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I was contacted this morning by Robyn Neeley herself, asking if I wanted to review her holiday office romance and I was so touched. But it was funny because I actually requested this book myself and her email was just a little nudge, reminding me that I have yet opened the epub in my email to read. So thanks Robyn for reminding me because if you didn’t, I would have forgotten and missed out this really adorable read!

American-King-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpg

They say that every tragic hero has a fatal flaw, a secret sin, a tiny stitch sewn into his future since birth. And here I am. My sins are no longer secret. My flaws have never been more fatal. And I’ve never been closer to tragedy than I am now.

I am a man who loves, a man whose love demands much in return. I am a king, a king who was foolish enough to build a kingdom on the bones of the past. I am a husband and a lover and a soldier and a father and a president.

And I will survive this.

Long live the king.

BOOK REVIEW: Heartless by Michelle Horst

Book Review!

Title: Heartless
Author: Michelle Horst
Publication: August 30th 2017
Pages: 219
Synopsis:

I’m warned that Carter Hayes is heartless.

He’s part of the screw crew.
He’ll just use you and leave you.
He’s ruthless and always gets what he wants.

Just look for the trail of broken hearts and dreamy sighs and you’ll find him.

“Hot as sin, Carter.”

I don’t have time to fall head over heels for any guy. Besides, he’d never notice someone like me. I have a three step plan. Get through college. Get a job. Get my sister out of the hell hole I left her in. That’s all I have time for.

That’s until I hear of the betting pool the guys started. Whoever screws me first gets the money. The moment Carter looks at me, I know it’s only because of the bet.

I tell myself our first kiss is only for show.
I hate my heart for falling for his irresistible charm.

For one foolish moment, I actually want him to be my first earth-shattering love. All it takes for me to give in is a little attention, a cocky smile, and a fake promise of a happily-ever-after.

When I’m surrounded by crumpled sheets and the smell of sex, I realize I let him have me for four hundred dollars.

To save what little pride I have left, I pretend it didn’t mean anything, that he’s just one last screw before we all leave college.

I’ve spent the last four years lying to myself. When I’m ready to take the final step of my plan, and save my sister, guess who walks through my front door?

This is a full-length, stand alone, unrequited love/second chance romance.
Note: The book ends at 77% with samples of Predator and Protector.

Okay, honestly, Heartless was a very borderline book for me. Authors who follow the troupe of enemies to lovers seem to be mistaken nowadays about what it means to be a lovable enemy to a hateful and rude enemy. I was literally seething while I read this book a lot of the times because of how some characters behaved and I’ll get into it more later but be AWARE. THIS IS YOUR WARNING.

According to my Goodreads, this is only my second book from Stefanie London and this is a shock to me simply because I know I’ve seen her name around and thought I must have read a lot from her but I guess I was just delusional. Ha! But I will say that Trouble Next Door, Stefanie’s latest release, was an enjoyable and comedic read.

If you’re looking for a romantic comedy, Trouble Next Door is definitely the book for you. I can’t stress the amount of smart and witty humor that was included in this book. There were so many moments between our hero and heroine, Beckett and Mckenna, that my mouth would twitch and I would smirk. These characters definitely worked well with each other and had the chemistry romance readers look for.

Publication: November 13th 2017
Pages: 220
Synopsis:

For Officer Justin Weaver, Christmas is the most hideous time of the year. To improve his “holiday cheer,” he’s been put on Officer Kringle duty, collecting toys for the Ho-Ho-Patrol.

It’s a week in holiday hell.

Worse, it comes with an elf—his little sister’s gorgeous best friend—but Lilly Maddox isn’t so little anymore. And as an annoyingly festive reporter looking to make her mark, she’s there to document his every move.

Justin’s always had a thing for Lilly, but he refuses to go there with her. Ever. Not after watching what his mom went through as a cop’s wife. But now that they’re trapped in his squad card, avoiding her just got a lot more complicated…

MY RATING: 4.5/5 STARS

I was provided an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Wrapped up in you must be one of my favourite holiday reads so far this year. Given the fact that I didn’t actually read that many holiday romances so far, this still tops the list. And I’ll explain why.

First, the writing was really fun and easy to slip into. You start off with getting to know the loveable cop, Justin, who just wants a break from all the buzz about how cops need to be seen more friendly. In order to make them appear more public friendly, cops are forced to wear Santa outfits and interact with the newscaster of a big local television news channel.

Sugarplum Way started off the way I want every book to start. It includes a generic over-the-top sweet heroine named some ridiculous name like Julia Landon and a too hot for his own good cop, Aidan. The story was easy to read, and super easy to fall in love with. Because come on! Although it’s only October, I’m already in the Christmas spirit and reading about two love birds like Julia and Aidan getting cozy near the fire? It’s definitely something I want to read.

From This Moment by Melanie Harlow

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publishing Date: October 10th, 2017

It was like seeing a ghost.

When my late husband’s twin brother moves back to our small town, I want to avoid him. Everything about Wes reminds me of the man I lost and the life we’d planned together, and after eighteen long months struggling just to get out of bed, I’m finally doing okay. I have a new job, an amazing support group, and a beautiful five-year-old daughter to parent. I don’t want to go backward.

But I’m drawn to him, too. He understands my grief and anger and guilt like no one else—and I understand his. Before long, that understanding becomes desire, and that desire becomes uncontrollable.

He says he doesn’t care what people think, and love can never be wrong. But life has taught me its cruelest lesson–love doesn’t always win.

If only my heart would believe it.
