Title: First & Last (A Billionaire’s Virgin Romance)
Author: Penny Wylder
Publication: May 23rd 2017
Pages: 105 pages
Synopsis:

He wants to be my first, and he’ll pay anything to make it happen.
I joined the First Times for Sale website on a dare. It’s not something I’d ever seriously consider, I mean… who sells their virginity?
I didn’t think someone would message me.
Definitely didn’t think I’d consider his offer.
But talk about sexy– and he’s clearly rich. Something has to be wrong with him. He’s got to be a creep, or broken, or dangerous.
I tell myself this so I can try to resist my curiosity.
And so I can resist messaging him back.
Then I hit reply, and worse, I agree to meet him.
It started as a dare.
How will it end?

This is a standalone novella with a HEA and NO cheating!
Penny Wylder writes just that– wild romances. Happily Ever Afters are always better when they’re a little dirty, so if you’re looking for a page turner that will make you feel naughty in all the right places, jump right in and leave your panties at the door!

MY RATING: 2/5 STARS

I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably wondering why I’m getting so harsh with Penny Wylder books lately but I’m trying to be fair in my reviews and this book simply did not meet my standards for her books.

First of all, the premise of selling your virginity online to the highest bidder has been done and played out before. I found this story to be similar to a lot of reads you can pick up on your amazon kindle and really, there’s nothing much different from this one and the next except for maybe how the relationship ends.

Title: Seven Days with Her Boss
Author: Penny Wylder
Publication: April 18th 2017
Pages: 103 pages
Synopsis:

My boss controls everything I do. And I’m starting to love it.
When I messed up my boss’s huge presentation and lost him his biggest client, I was sure I was done for. I need this job more than anything—without it, I’ve got nothing.
So when he told me to get on my knees and beg to keep working for him… I did it.
I blushed furiously, but I did it.
That was the start of the end.
My boss says he won’t fire me on one condition…
I’ve got to live with him for one week while I prove to him I can listen. That I can behave.
If it sounds dirty, it’s because it is.
This isn’t a normal job training exercise—this is him proving he controls me.
All I wanted to do was keep my job. Now I’m crawling on all fours, wearing what he tells me to, and bending over every piece of furniture in his house so he can punish me for my mistakes. Mistakes I’m starting to make on purpose.
Why is this perverted stuff turning me on, changing who I am?
And after seven days of this… will I ever be the same again?

This is a standalone novella with a HEA and NO cheating!
Penny Wylder writes just that– wild romances. Happily Ever Afters are always better when they’re a little dirty, so if you’re looking for a page turner that will make you feel naughty in all the right places, jump right in and leave your panties at the door!

MY RATING: 2/5 STARS

I love Penny Wylder and in my future blog posts, you’ll be seeing a lot more reviews from me about her books because she’s one of my favourite indie authors but this book was a major disappointment.

I understand the dynamics of a dominant relationship and the forbidden romance of a boss and a secretary but seriously? I would call HR on his ass if my boss decided to “teach me” to become a better employee by telling me to go on my knees and strip for him. It was just too rushed into it, with no ease for readers so it felt very wrong in a very bad way instead of a very good way.

Book Review: This is Reckless by Kennedy Fox (Checkmate Duet #3)

33231678

Title: This is Reckless
Author: Kennedy Fox
Publication: December 13th 2016
Pages: 404 pages
Synopsis:

Introducing book 1 in the Drew & Courtney saga of the Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo under the USA Today bestselling author pseudonym, Kennedy Fox!

This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?

***
Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.
He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me–his little sister’s best friend.
I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl. It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn’t his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.

I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if.
He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny.
We’re friends, but I want more.

One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.

A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.

Checkmate, Prince Charming.

*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*

**This is book 3 in the Checkmate Duet Series but book 1 in the Drew & Courtney Saga–a friends to lovers romance. This can read as a standalone duet or read in order of the series.**

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS

I want to start off my review with the fact that I actually never wanted to read this duet. I just wasn’t interested in Drew and Courtney’s story from the previous duet and I kind of just started it off as a joke. But the joke was on me because Kennedy Fox’s writing is just so light and fun, it draws you in and you can’t stop with just one page.

Suddenly, I’m with Courtney and her wild party adventures and of course, the shocking opening scene in the prologue. Courtney is definitely a change in character from what Kennedy Fox writes. For a starter, she parties so automatically she’s not a goody two shoes and she’s different from the book smart angel characters we got as depicted by Viola and later on, Kayla (I read the series not in order. Sue me.) Anyways, I was unsure about her a lot because I didn’t want to read a story about how a girl just keeps getting shit faced but thankfully, she wasn’t like that. All the time. She was kind, considerate, and patient with everyone. She also baked which was a nice quirk to have since blueberry muffins ya’ll are delicious.

MY RATING: 2/5 STARS

REVIEW:

I received an advanced reader copy from forever romance books for an honest review.

I’m a big fan of historical romance. I love the forbidden kisses, the tension between characters, the innocence, the smooth and intoxicating writing style. However, Amy Jarecki doesn’t deliver the traditional historical romance you may love. The writing style is a tad bit more modern, throwing away the classic writing style you may be familiar with from Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, etc.

The characters are more pronounced as well. There are plots under plots of the main one. Our main heroine, Maddie, is fierce and a temptress to our hero, Aiden. Aiden, an inexperienced lover, is taught the intricacies of sex by Maddie who is more experienced, and it sounds great but I don’t feel like that’s my thing. I kind of just want Aiden to know exactly what he’s doing, how he does it, and not fumble around. But that’s just my personal preference.

As for the story…it moved a bit too slow. Added with no sexual tension and longing, it was just…lame in a way? It was still an enjoyable read but it’s definitely not my favourites.

REVIEW:

I received a copy of this book from Forever Romance in exchange for an honest review.

I just want to start off this review by giving a fair warning that I did not know that this book was part of a series and while I believe you can read it standalone, it’ll be like me, where you’ll be slightly confused and be caught up in characters you didn’t know existed.

Furthermore, I want to give a warning that I read this book without the right mindset. I didn’t feel like a crime/thriller/suspense romance novel so it was really hard for me to push through and finish this book.

Book Review: After the Rain by Renee Carlino

After the Rain

Title: After the Rain

Author: Renee Carlino

Pages: 304

There, he meets a beautiful young woman named Avelina who teaches him more than he ever knew about matters of the heart.

MY RATING: 1/5 STARS

REVIEW:

I’m being very, very, very generous when I’m giving this book a 1/5 stars because let’s just start off that it started off well…enough. It’s written in both perspectives of Avelina and Nate which was promising to me because I like dual perspective stories.

However, there was just so many things wrong with this book.

Let’s begin with how Avelina’s story was written in a summary format. For the first couple of chapters, the author was summarizing her life instead of telling me her story. It made the story so boring and I felt so bad for her character because it had so much potential to leave an impact. Instead, it was just pointless for me to read.

I’m also going to talk about how Avelina basically had such a wild background I was shocked that it happened by chapter 3 or somewhere in the near beginning. She fell in love with her husband, Jake, and marries him very early on in the relationship and then tragedy strikes. A horse falls on top of Jake. You read it right. A horse falls on top of Jake as he’s trying to save Avelina from being trampled on. Fine. Let’s just say we believe it and then we move on. I expect death at this point because the way the author is describing how a thousand pound animal just falls on top of you, it’s reasonable. HOWEVER, NO. THIS WOULDN’T BE THE 1/5 STAR STORY UNLESS…

An Advanced Reader Copy was provided to me by Forever Romance in exchange for an honest review.

Hello, welcome back to another small town story novel about two opposites that find their lives crossing paths and ultimately falling in love. Let’s begin by first introducing our hunk, Ben Westmore.

Ben’s a big shot hockey player that is about to lead his team into the Stanley Cup finals. He doesn’t need distractions (I know, we’ve read it before but i love this concept) and especially doesn’t need his lawyers telling him that the little drunken mistake has led him to an actual WIFE. Yup, Ben got drunk and now his childhood friend, Kristina Sullivan, claims that she’s his wife and she intends for him to fulfill his role…

Or so we think.

Review:

I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book by Forever romance books in exchange for an honest review.

Let’s start off this review by stating that this is a contemporary romance novel with a happily ever after, a strong heroine, and a gentleman who falls head over heels for the heroine. It’s a small town romance so you can expect the fluffy bits  and not much of a more complicated plot than that.
